Reflection:
What would happen to planet Earth if there was no humans to disrupt or destroy it? Well for starters there would be nobody to maintain it and so vegetation would start to dominate many places around the world. In the article the author used Manhattan as an example, so if humans left the Earth major cities the first thing that would happen would be that the power would shut off. Since power mostly comes from a nuclear or coral-fired plants have automatic fail-safe switch to make sure that they don't go out of control if no humans are monitoring their systems. By Day 2 subways in major cities would be completed filled with water, in Day 7 nuclear reactors burn or melt down as their cooling systems fail. In the underground corrosion is happening which is a process of gradual destruction of materials, and once it starts to corrode it eventually collapses. And pretty soon some of the streets will revert to the surface rivers that were there before the streets. Buildings will start to collapse since they are steel beam foundations, the structures are not made to be waterlogged. Then natural disasters like hurricanes hit the East Coast as the climate changes giving it more extreme weathering.
When buildings fall it takes down others as well, that creates a clearing. And when is creates a clearing, it blows seeds from plants, and those seeds would establish themselves in the cracks in the pavement. Some of the species that would be happy that humans left Earth would be birds, since they won't have to fly into any skyscraper or power lines. Trees would also be happy without any humans, since they would claim back there once territory. Mosquitoes, that live in wetlands with great clouds of insects and they would feed on some other wildlife. And cats would do well without humans eating small mammals and birds. The species that would not survive without humans would be cattle, since they would become food for larger animals such as mountain lions and coyotes. And rats would either starve or get eaten by larger animals. Cockroaches need heated buildings in order to stay warm. Last is the head lice since there is no more humans no more head lice. By the 15,000 year, the last reaming stone buildings from all around the world will fall to advancing glaciers as a new ice age begins.
When I was reading this article it really surprised me how planet Earth would be like if there was no humans. Of course hopefully that doesn't happen soon but I believe it would be an experience to see how the environment would change and if it would be better or worse without us. I learned the entire timeline of the how Earth would be, for example it states by the 300th year of no humans, bridges all over the world would have fallen but maybe some of the arch bridges may last several hundreds years longer. As well as learning what species can survive in the new environment and what species can not survive without humans. I started to really think about how everything will be different and if people in the future would see how we used to live and I wondered what they would have said and thought about our lifestyle.
So What?

So What?
- No humans no impact on the environment.
- An entire different Earth were vegetation is everywhere, and animals roam everywhere as well.
- Alan Weisman
- Edward Bell
- The world didn't have humans where would they go
- Who would be the number 1 predator at of all the animals.
